As a young high school student, Yagami Light is purely the epitome of perfect. He both excels in the athletics as well as in the academics, often leaving his teachers and peers alike stunned and uncomprehending. Light has a charm to him. He's considerate and exceptionally skilled, able to deduce theories and conclusions where others have tried and failed in the past, and maintains the nice-guy smile no matter what he may be feeling or thinking internally. This doesn't only implement his incredible talent at acting, but also his frightening ability to lie under pressure. He doesn't often use this skill simply because a majority of the time he doesn't require its use, but if given the right circumstances, it can easily become a deadly weapon of persuasion or manipulation.

Unfortunately, though Light's life incites envious attitudes from all corners of the spectrum, he as a person isn't satisfied. Day after day he suffers, answering questions correctly and acing tests with a blank-slate expression. Where students normally use up the full three-hour time limit allotted them on exam periods, Light generally uses half. Where students talk and laugh and throw parties, always quick to escape the prison of the structured educational system, Light lingers and secludes himself. He's painfully reclusive even within a crowd of chatting, happy acquaintances; he manages to pass off smiles of assured comfort whenever anyone asks him if something's wrong, and they believe him.

Yagami Light is bored.

background→

From the start, Yagami Light had been born into an ideal family and environment. He had a mother who loved him dearly, a father who prided himself so much in his son, and later to come, a sister who looked up to him as a role model. As far as life went from there, nothing remarkable happened. He had no unhappy mishaps such as death in the family unless it was an elder relative, only normalcy. Childhood passing: learning how to talk, crawl, walk, learning how to tie his own shoes, learning how to count to a hundred. His birthdays were normal events that consisted of neighborhood kids coming over and icing-lavished slices of birthday cake being passed around on paper plates. It was ordinary.

It grew stale.

As a seventeen-year-old, Light hasn't lived much of his life through yet. He's still got a long way to go and he knows it, but he's always hoping for the off-chance, that maybe one lucky day something or someone will stumble upon him or he'll stumble upon them and his life will change forever. For the better.

His father is a police officer, and a very renowned one at that. Light looks up to this man and hopes to one day follow in his footsteps, because law has always fascinated him. Law has always held his interest, has always pulled him in, and the products of the criminal world have always disgusted him. He knows society is corrupt. There's a fine balance between genuine care and fallacy, so precarious, as though someone has their hands on the scale of the world and occasionally shakes to see what'll happen.

Light despises the world sometimes. He knows there are countless out there who deserve so much better but instead suffer, suffer, and suffer some more just because no one else gives a damn, and he hates it.

He wants to change it.

So he starts with the small things. Working his way up in school, making himself better and the best, more and most, always set on proving himself to anyone who need to be proven to. Because one day, he knows he's going to fix things, and even if he has to endure monotonous, monochrome days and months and years until the time comes, it will be worth it in the end. He has the potential.
